I used to live on the River at Golant, the Clay trains would roll past everyday and I would often walk into Fowey along the lines, Doubt you would be allowed to set foot on the tracks now, there is a small creek right about where the train is first stopped where there was an old mill, it was known locally as the Hippy Colony, Scene of the empty train returning was shot from Golant where I lived, the spot where the cameraman is stood was on the road that ran beside the river which would be underwater at high tide every day so you had to time your journey correctly or use the top road through the village. the local shop would open only on a Wednesday afternoon, the Mermaid Pub was brilliant and a fantastic hotel called the Cormorant overlooked the river. ah memories.

What a shame that the Great Western Railway never built a 2-10-2 side tank enngine!

The loan period I believe is only for another 2 years and then it's subject to either a new loan agreement for display at the studio tour OR West Coast decide to return the engine to Carnforth for an overhaul. If it does run again they will need to do something about the width issues halls have on the mainline.

So the driver operates three levers at the start. The red one is the regulator, the silver one in the foreground sets the valve timing via the Walschaert’s motion(?). Does the other one that he operates twice blow steam to empty the cylinders?

Didn’t seem that long. I know I’ve been stuck waiting for trains moving at that pace for 10-15 minutes before, but maybe that’s just because I’m from Chicago which is like the center of the American Railroad system.

If you do hapen to trip the controller with a short. You can get it back up and running again fast if you unplug the power lead from it and turn the knob to full power. It will flash the red led and once done you can use again immediately. Takes about 10 seconds max.

Hope to see some steamies running. My model of Leander had an accident for which I was responsible. Fear not, thanks to a trusty small screwdriver and a little help from ebay, Leander is running again with the chassis of another Jubilee named Orion.

Hi, I visited the Solihull dealership at the weekend and they have the blue X2 on display. Did you note the actual colour of that first car in your video, I have a feeling its the Brooklyn Grey, any ideas?. Just trying to find real vids showing the actual colours and not those in the configurator tool which are not realistic. Thanks

Maybe one day, if they have space, the young ones can have a model railway of their own. The Santa Express Train Set would provide hours of magical fun for them. It's a great set for beginners. Another set they can think about playing with is the Bachmann Thomas the Tank Engine train set. Thomas with moving eyes, his coaches Annie & Clarabel, an oval of track and a 00 gauge Bachmann train controller. Bet they'd be thrilled to find that under the Christmas tree.

What made the volunteers decide to name the blue 08 shunter, Phoenix? The Didcot Railway Centre has a blue 08 shunter named Phantom. Are these two brother and sister? I'm intrigued.
